The management of Poland's state television company TVP, which has been fighting off financial collapse since December, is now facing union threats of a strike.
Company directors will meet with representatives of the Wizja trade union at noon today. TVP spokesman Stanisław Wojtera said he is counting on the empathy of the union.
However, according to information obtained by Polska, the unions are refusing to back down from their demands. They are demanding information about plans for job cuts and protesting the fact that creative and technical workers are bearing the brunt of the company's cost-cutting efforts.
Wizja is demanding fair treatment of all employees. The discussions have already been going on for days.
At Monday's meeting, TVP president Romuald Orzeł distanced himself from his predecessor's plan of slashing employment by 500.
