Wroc³aw authorities have announced that German construction company Max Bögl will be the new contractor of the city’s soccer arena for the Euro 2012 championships. A public procurement contract valued at z³.655 million was signed in mid-January under the single-source procedure.
Towards the end of last year, Wroc³aw broke the original construction contract with a Polish-Greek consortium headed by Mostostal Warszawa following what it saw as considerable delays in the construction schedule and the consortium’s inability to finish the project on time. The city claims that after 40 percent of the total time allowed for construction had elapsed, the contractor had completed only slightly over seven percent of the work.
Max Bögl, which unsuccessfully bid for the original Wroc³aw stadium tender last year, will enter the construction site in February. Activity should resume in March following reorganization of the work and the selection of subcontractors.
According to city authorities, the stadium still has a chance of being delivered by the end of June 2011, as previously planned. Max Bögl is expected to introduce a three-shift work schedule in order to make up for the delays. Mostostal Warszawa announced that it was taking the city of Wroc³aw to court over its decision.
