US President Barack Obama called Prime Minister Donald Tusk yesterday requesting more Polish troops for the ongoing occupation of Afghanistan, as well as asking for political support in Europe for the US's new strategy in the war there.
Yesterday Mr Obama announced plans to send at least 30,000 additional soldiers to Afghanistan and has requested that NATO allies, including Poland, send another 5,000 troops.
Prime Minister Tusk has asked Defense Minister Bogdan Klich to carry out a study on how many soldiers Poland can send in order to make the most significant contribution with the fewest number of troops.
“If this were an individual decision by Poland we would not make such efforts. But this is an investment in Poland's security. It is sad and unpopular,” declared Tusk.
