Banks growing as number of personal accounts rise

Within 12 months the number of personal bank accounts in Poland increased by over 1.3 million

The number of personal bank accounts in Poland increased by over 1.3 million within 12 months.

However, the two market leaders, PKO BP and Pekao, did not manage to increase the number of accounts and even recorded a slight drop.

In total, mid-size banks acquired as many as a few hundred thousand clients during this period. The highest growth was recorded by Eurobank at 15,000.

"Some of the accounts were opened in relation to using our credit products and are used for handling them. Others are online accounts, bearing interest of 4.04 percent," said Bartłomiej Gryglewicz, director of Eurobank.

One of the ways to attract new clients is to expand the network of outlets and BZ WBK, which opened 100 new outlets within one year, acquired almost 190,000 new accounts.

"The personal account is a strategic product for us. Due to this we adjusted it to fit the needs of individual groups of clients," said Paweł Kusza from BZ WBK.
