On Monday the Executive Vice President of General Motors, Nick Reilly, visited Poland and met with, among others, deputy PM Waldemar Pawlak.
However, the press office did not provide any information on this meeting until the newspapers had gone to print. During a meeting with the company's employees, no actual facts were presented by Mr Reilly.
"He was talking very much in general. He only said that restructuring is unavoidable. From what we have understood, planned cuts will be similar to those which were previously proposed by Magna. We can only wait," said Mirosław Rzeźniczek, deputy head of the Solidarity trade union at the Gliwice Opel plant.
According to sources of Rzeczpospolita, the GM head informed Mr Pawlak that the firm is awaiting financial support from those countries in Europe where GM facilities are located.
