Ukrainian health officials estimate that a flu epidemic which has spread like wildfire around the country has already taken as many as 60 lives.
In response, Slovakia has closed its borders with Ukraine in a bid to prevent the flu strain from entering the country.
Despite having not yet taken such drastic measures, Poland has assured that there is enough medicine to treat patients in case a similar pandemic hits the country.
“We have a sufficient amount of Tamiflu flu vaccines,” Dr Przemysław Guła, Director of the Center for Security Policy, told TVN24. He did not reveal exactly how much medicine is in stock.
“We know how much Tamiflu [there is] in pharmacies, warehouses, and medical clinics, and how much we have in the agency reserve,” Dr Guła said, adding that these reserves can be made use of at any time. (RG)
