Two weeks ago Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski was optimistic about budget revenues and expected to see the income from taxes exceed the planned amount of zł.204.8 billion this year by some zł.4.7 billion.

In addition, revenues from VAT were to be higher by a further zł.3.5 billion, PIT by zł.0.5 billion and excise by zł.0.8 billion.

As a result, the deficit was to be lower than the expected zł.27.2 billion and was projected to amount to zł.22.5 billion.

The forecasts related to this year's revenues of the budget were amended yesterday by Minister Rostowski and therefore the deficit will be higher than zł.22.5 billion.

Meanwhile, the first reading of the budget bill for 2010 will take place on October 7 in parliament, and has to be approved within four months.
