Speaking at a news conference, Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski said that next year's budget gap target of zł.52.2 billion is “safe” and that the government plans to start narrowing the deficit in 2011.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that “The deficit is large, but safe, there are sums of money for investment and privatization have also been earmarked. We did this by not increasing taxes.”

Deputy Prime Minister Waldemar Pawlak pointed out that "EU funds and proceeds from privatization are also important for the budget.”
“We're expecting that starting from 2011 we will decrease the budget deficit,” Minister Rostowski told the conference, following the approval of the draft by the cabinet. (JJ, RG)
