The head of the NATO army in Afghanistan General Stanely McChrystal warned US President Barack Obama in a special report that, "Things are getting worse and if the West does not send in more troops, we will lose the war against the Taliban."
According to the report the Americans urgently need an additional 30,000-45,000 soldiers in Afghanistan.
Currently, the Polish contingent counts 2,400 troops, and another 300 already trained could be sent at any moment. The Polish army has already lost 13 soldiers in Afghanistan.
Representatives of the government declared that the number of Polish troops will not be increased. "For a short period of time the 300 soldiers could go to Afghanistan, but they would have to return soon. We cannot afford more," said a government official.
