On Tuesday, Polish President Lech Kaczyński revealed he will sign the Lisbon Treaty if it was voted through in the Ireland referendum on October 2. Mr Kaczyński said he would sign the treaty “in a very short time” if a positive outcome prevailed.

The President of Austria, Heinz Fischer who was on a visit to Warsaw, said that the treaty had a “very good chance” of being accepted, and said that what happens in Ireland is extremely important.

The decision of Poland and the Czech Republic were also important ones which, along with Germany, are the only other signatures needed to ratify the treaty. (JJ)
