The head of the Polish Land Forces, General Waldemar Skrzypczak, has decided to step down and withdraw from the army.
The decision came as a surprise, as just half an hour before his announcement, President Lech Kaczyński, after meeting with Defense Minister Bogdan Klich, had said “The General has crossed lines, but he will remain in his position.”
Rzeczpospolita reports that the general quit after a declaration from the Defense Minister that Skrzypczak apologized to him about the criticism of the bureaucracy in the Ministry.
“I do not want to say that the Minister is lying [about this], but he is definitely not telling the whole truth. I am not withdrawing from any of my words,” the general declared.
