A military patrol of almost 100 occupation soldiers, including over a dozen Polish officers, was attacked by the Taliban resistance in Afghanistan yesterday morning.

The international contingent was fired at with machine guns and bazookas and was aided by US helicopters and planes, which forced the Taliban to withdraw from the attack. Four Polish soldiers were wounded but none of their lives are endangered.

However, one Polish officer is missing in action and is being searched for by a Polish division supported by the US army.

The Defense Minister in Afghanistan told Bogdan Klich, the Polish Defense Minister, that he will do everything to find the missing soldier. According to unofficial information, the missing military captain was taken prisoner by the Taliban.

If this turns out to be true, he would be the first Polish soldier taken prisoner since WWII.
