Puls Biznesu has unofficially learned that this month the management of the largest domestic insurer PZU is to finalize negotiations with the company's trade unions concerning mass layoffs.

The insurance group currently employs 15,500 staff and the redundancies encompass at least 1,550 persons. Representatives of PZU have not yet officially confirmed the news, however, the company's spokesperson admitted that the enterprise is looking for ways to cut costs.

"The past few months have been a time of intensive work and analysis related to the formation of a new strategy for the company, which is to ensure stable and effective functioning in the future.Currently we are considering projects, which aim at restructuring the group. The result of these are to be significant savings on costs," said Michał Witkowski, PZU spokesperson.
