Some Polish politicians elected to the European Parliament will receive up to eight hours of English-language schooling a day to hone their language skills.

New MEPs who will get schooling include former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro of the Law and Justice (PiS) party. PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński warned, referring to Ziobro, that without a very strong command of English or French, a European Parliament politician is a “fourth-rate deputy.”

According to official data from the Sejm's Chancellery, quoted by TVN24, as many as 300 of the 460 politicians who ran in the elections stated that their English skills were very good. (RG)
