Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has met his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov while on a two-day visit to Moscow.
During the 15-minute meeting on Wednesday morning, Lavrov praised Polish foreign policy, particularly efforts to repair diplomatic ties between the two countries. “In general, we are satisfied with the policy of the Donald Tusk government aimed at correcting [an] imbalance in relations with Russia despite subjective difficulties that persist in many respects. Our two governments adhere to pragmatic interaction that is based on our people’s interests,” Lavrov was quoted as saying by the ITAR-TASS news agency. “We are ready to continue this trend,” he said.
Sikorski said he was also satisfied by the current state of relations between the two countries. “It is normal that neighboring countries consult each other on mutual issues,” he told the Polish press after the meeting. “I am pleased that a number of issues, which we have started [working upon] will result positively.”
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin plans to visit Poland on September 1.
