The Polish branch of Chinese PC producer Lenovo has abandoned its plan to open a factory in Legnickie Pole.
“The company of Lenovo confirms that it will not open a factory in Legnickie Pole in Poland. This decision was made because of the fact that the general contractor of the project did not meet the deadlines agreed upon in the contract and did not finish construction of the building,” Lenovo said in statement.
The investment in the Legnica Special Economic Zone was worth $30 (zł.99.6) million and was to be Lenovo’s first factory in Europe. It was to employ 1,300 workers and produce two million PCs a year.
According to Rzeczpospolita, the Chinese firm was presented a new proposal by the local authorities of Zielona Góra and Nowa Sól earlier this month. This offer included the adaptation of an existing hall, a six-year property tax break and €300,000 (zł.1,310,000) to train workers and improve infrastructure.
However, Lenovo chose not to open a factory in Poland and it is not known if the firm will enter another European country. Before it originally chose Poland, Lenovo had also considered the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
