Developer Skanska Property Poland has announced that its class-A Atrium City office building in Warsaw’s city center is the first commercial building in Poland to be awarded a European Commission GreenBuilding certificate.
Atrium City secured the title on the strength of its environmental-friendliness and its low energy requirements, which, according to external consulting company ProBe, are 32.5 percent lower than consumption levels of conventional Polish buildings.
“For many years, our focus has been on energy efficiency and optimizing energy costs,” said Nicklas Lindberg, CEO of Skanska Property Poland. “And it is important to add that it does not mean any additional cost for the tenants, but only saving on energy bills,” he added.
The GreenBuilding scheme is a voluntary program aimed at improving the energy efficiency of non-residential buildings in Europe. A certified building must meet the condition of at least 25 percent lower energy consumption than that required by building standards, or 25 percent lower consumption levels than conventional buildings in a given country.
Skanska Property Property Poland is a subsidiary of Skanska Commercial Development Europe, one of 14 units within Skanska, focused on operations in Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. The company has been present on the Polish market for 10 years.
