Poland's southern areas are likely to get the worst weather conditions

On Tuesday afternoon, as snow once again closed in on Warsaw, 166 sand trucks were sent out to bring the situation under control. An additional 2,000 people are working to clear pavements. The previous day some 950 kilometers of roads had been cleared of snow.

The extreme weather conditions caused around 100 minor collisions and nine car accidents on Monday, with 15 people injured. Snow and fog were also the cause of a pile-up on the A4 highway on Lower Silesia, where 20 cars ran into each other because of the snow and fog.

A helicopter, on its way to the site of the accident crashed, killing two and injuring many more.

The spokesman for the Warsaw Police, Marcin Szyndler, has appealed to drivers to be extra careful, drive slowly and give extra space between the car ahead as black ice is making roads unpredictable.

And there is more bad news, there is unlikely to be any let up in weather conditions for the next few days, with Southern areas likely to bear the worst of it.
