Zygmunt Solorz-Żak is among the few famous investors who continue to prosper during the downturn.
He is about to embark on a new venture, "My telecommunication investments will consume several billion złoty," said Zygmunt Solorz-Żak, owner of Telewizja Polsat.
Taking into account the scale of the investment, this might be the project of his life, as he has never invested such sum in any other venture before. According to sector experts, he will develop mobile phone services via Aero2, which acquired a GSM900 license, but he denied this rumor.
The construction of the network will consume about €1 billion.
The owner of Polsat TV is already active in mobile telephony via Cyfrowy Polsat, which has been operating as an MVNO for six months.
"For the time being we shall finance the project from our own funds, only afterwards will we look for additional sources of capital," said the investor. Initially, he will develop Sferia, the fixed line operator based on Warsaw and Ostrołęka, which requires an investment of zł.300 million in 2009.
