Polish troops to be withdrawn from three missions
The Ministry of Defense has decided to scrap three foreign missions in order to save money
Three military missions in Chad, Lebanon and the Golan Heights in Israel will be ended by the Polish Ministry of Defense in a bid to save funds.
Defense Minister Bogdan Klich told TVN24 that this withdrawal of troops would not damage the army in general.
When the news broke on Wednesday morning, Polish President Lech Kaczyński had not yet been informed about the decision, but Klich expressed his certainty that the head of state would approve of the cost-cutting measures.
The ministry has decided to cut its costs by over zł.2 billion as part of an inter-ministrial cost cutting program.
Polish troops on NATO missions in Iraq and Afghanistan will remain in place for the time being, Klich confirmed. (RG)
