The Minister of Internal Affairs Krzysztof Janik, announced plans to increase national security measures during the period of Christmas holidays.

"One of the reasons for this decision was the fact that we have stopped several people from one of the countries of high risk on our borders," said Mr Janik, adding that these men were not able to state their reason for visiting Poland. The men have been detained in custody for undisclosed reasons.

Mr Janik emphasized that all the services have received appropriate orders and that their members will pay extra attention to places like hypermarkets, churches, and all outdoors events, during this high-risk period.

"I hope that this Christmas will turn out to be calm, but we, the people responsible for the nation's security, are also aware that the international situation is not very stable, and that the War on Terrorism continues," Mr Janik told journalists.

The Internal Security Agency (ABW) also announced on Wednesday it is receiving an increased number of warnings of potential terrorist attacks all over the world, including Poland.
