President Lech Kaczyński began his visit to Jerusalem yesterday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel. It is not excluded that President Kaczyński will also meet with US President George Bush as, "This is one of the main aims of the visit," according to one of the employees of the Presidential Chancellery.
The face to face informal meeting is to take place in Jerusalem and is to be a chance to discuss Polish-US relations, which according to Law and Justice (PiS) politicians are in deadlock. President Kaczyński will also participate in a conference entitled "Looking into the future" and is to meet later today with Israeli President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Moreover, another round of talks is planned with the leaders of Georgia and Ukraine.
"Kaczyński is disturbed by the fact that he is being pushed away from the issues which are of special interest to him, that is politics in the East, by the Foreign Ministry" said a representative of the Presidential Chancellery. (Dziennik, p. 7) A.K.
