McDonald's heads the profit surge in the fast food sector

25th April 2008

McDonald's, the US fast food giant, yesterday reported strong revenue and profit growth at its Polish operation in 2007.

Sales from its 150 wholly-owned restaurants jumped by 15% last year to zł.771.6 million, while net profit surged by almost 50% to zł.57.2 million. The results would be more impressive if its more than 60 franchise partners were included, the company said. McDonald's does not reveal these figures, but said profits at its Polish franchise restaurants hit an all-time high as well in 2007. The results compare favorably with those of listed rivals AmRest and Sfinks. AmRest reported a 26% increase in net profit for 2007 to zł.48 million, on sales of zł.853 million. And net profit at Sfinks declined almost four-fold, to zł.3.3 million from zł.12 million. McDonald's said sales were helped by a store-remodeling program and  the addition of new items to its menu. Polish customers also welcomed the possibility to pay by credit card. McDonald's has invested zł.700 million in Poland since its entry in 1992. McDonald's Polska employs over 12,000 people.
