On Thursday French supermarket chain Carrefour launches its own MVNO telephone service called Carrefour Mova.

This is a new move in the sector following the expansion of supermarkets into smaller towns, own petrol stations and offering diverse financial services. "Poland will be the fifth country in Europe after France, Belgium, Spain and Italy, in which we are starting our own mobile telephone service. In the course of a year it should be possible to win around 100,000 clients to our service, said Gilles Roudy, Carrefour Polska's new chairman. The magnets drawing clients to Mova are not only low call prices (zł.0.49 per minute to all operators), but also the possibility of gaining free minutes in exchange for shopping at Carrefour. The chain will make use of infrastructure belonging to Polkomtel. "The telecommunication market is saturated so gaining a new important virtual operator, means better use of our network and additional revenues," said Adam Glapiński, Polkomtel's chairman.
