Avon set to beautify the mobile industry

4th January 2007

Cosmetics distributor Avon Cosmetics Polska intends to launch mobile phone services as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) and its 200,000-woman army of sales representatives is a considerable advantage.

On Wednesday, it signed an agreement with PTK Centertel, which will make its network available to the firm. "I cannot reveal any details concerning rates in our future offer. The services will launch in the spring," said Monika Golebiowska, spokeswoman for Avon. Poland will be a training ground for the company, which as yet does not provide such services in any other country. So far, three potential MVNO companies have signed agreements with the current three mobile phone operators. "Avon may succeed in entering the telecommunications market. Despite the fact that no details are yet known, I expect the company will offer prepaid phones and will sell Centertel services in the simplest possible way. Earnings via these means are not much, but at least it does not require a long wait for a return on the investment," said a representative of one of the companies planning to offer such services.
