ECHO Kielce-based Echo Investment's main operations include real-estate services such as the purchase and sale of land and activities in the housing-construction market, as well as commercial and industrial buildings. Apart from its development operations, the company is involved through its subsidiary in publishing. Echo operates only in the domestic market, mostly in the Warsaw area. The leading shareholder is Michal Sołowow. The company was founded in 1992. Its Q4 2005 operational revenues reached zł.55.7 million, down from 2004's zł.86.4 million, but net profits skyrocketed to zł.193.3 million, while in 2004 they were zł.26.4 million.

 

CAPITAL Warsaw-based Capital Partners' main activities are project financing by taking over significant shareholdings and consultancy in acquiring capital. IT was founded in 2002. In Q4 2005 sales revenues of the company fell considerably from Q4 2004's zł.2.4 million to zł.227,000. Moreover, net and gross results went from profits in 2004 to losses in 2005, reaching -20,000 and -22,000 respectively.

 

GROCLIN Wolsztyn-Karpicko-based Inter Groclin Auto is one of Poland's largest producers of car accessories, such as car seats, child safety seats and seat covers. Its upholstery can be found in such automobile brands as Volvo, Mitsubishi, Renault, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Smart and Audi. The main markets include the Benelux countries and Germany. Private investor Zbigniew Drzymała is the firm's main shareholder. Q4 2005 net profits reached nearly zł.12 million, compared with Q4 2004's figure of zł.43.4 million.

 

HYDROBUD The Katowice-based company's operations include construction of hydro-technical structures for dams, water treatment plants, and pumping stations. It is also a manufacturer of steel constructions, materials and components for the construction industry. The company's main customers are local governments and municipal enterprises.

 

ELEKTRIM Warsaw-based Elektrim is one of Poland's biggest conglomerates, and focuses on telecommunications, electrical power engineering and electro-machinery. In 2001 the company acquired web portal Poland.com from MCI Maganement (MCI). In the electrical power engineering sector the group constructs and renovates power plants and energy boilers through its subsidiaries Elektrim-Energetyka, Megadex and Rafako.

 

Bottom 5 losers

 

ATLANTAPL The Gdańsk-based company is the biggest domestic importer and wholesaler of various types of nuts and dried fruit. It began its activity in 1990. The company's premises cover an area of 12,000 square meters with storage and office buildings of 45,000 cubic meters of capacity, located nearby the main transport junctions of the Gdansk metro area, enabling easy transport around the Tricity. Atlanta's Q4 2005 sales revenues improved year-on-year by nearly eight percent, reaching zł.130.4 million, while its net profit increased from 2004's zł.4.4 million to 2005's zł.6.2 million.

 

POLNORD Gdańsk-based Polnord focuses on general-building works. Polnord also designs, produces and installs facades and PCV and aluminum carpentry. It also makes concrete and reinforced concrete prefabricated elements. It provides development services through its subsidiary Polnord-Dom. On March 8 Nordea bank lengthened the period of time in which the company is expected to pay off a loan it was granted in 2001. Polnord is to pay zł.3 million by the end of the present year.

 

ATMGRUPA Kobierzyce-based ATM Grupa is a group of companies operating in the movie- and television-production market. It provides services beginning from creating an idea and finding the proper format all the way through post-production. Their secondary offers include editing services, voice transmission and production, catering and shipping services. The company cooperates with Polsat Television, TV4, TVP Wrocław, TVP 1, TVP 2 and TV Polonia.

 

ALMA Kraków-based Alma's basic activities involve trading food commodities, consumer goods and industrial and chemical products. The firm conducts the majority of its transactions in the domestic market. Shareholders are strongly diversified. The company is going to open its next store in Warsaw soon.

 

LUBAWA The firm produces a wide range of technical goods with product groups such as tourist equipment and military equipment. The company reported zł.4.04 million in net profit in 2005, surpassing 2004's figure by some 33 percent. Sales revenues reached zł.23.65 million.
