The largest European cosmetics chain, Schlecker from Germany, has begun its expansion in Poland by opening several stores.

However, the firm's development plans here are strictly confidential and its headquarters refused to reveal any further details. It is only known that according to Schlecker's current plans, it will soon open 1,000 stores Europe-wide. "Expansion of Schlecker in Poland is currently progressing very slowly," said Roman Lewandowski, spokesman of Rossman Polska, which will own roughly 200 cosmetics supermarkets in Poland by 2005. He went on to say that Schlecker is only testing the Polish market with investment decisions only to be made after careful considerations due to the high risk involved. The company is looking for space of at least 120 square meters in cities with more than 6,000 residents. (Puls Biznesu, p. 12) M.M.
