According to a report in Rzeczpospolita, among the 150 largest enterprises in Central and East Europe there are 55 companies from Poland, 40 Russian and 19 from Hungary. The number of firms on the ranking has been tripled. The first place, as last year, was taken by Russian Gazprom, while the largest Polish company - Orlen has been ranked seventh, which is one place lower than in 2003. TP SA dropped from 10 to 15th place, while the National Grid (PSE) from 13 to 18th. "The list is dominated by companies mining, processing and distributing natural resources, mainly oil and gas. A second interesting thing is that there is hardly any change on the list. This leads to a sad conclusion that there is no sign of corporations emerging which could become global players," said Maciej Grabowski from the Market Economy Research Institute.
