Politicians claim that the Infrastructure Ministry will overpay the Gdańsk Transport Company (GTC) for construction of the A1 highway between Gdańsk and Grudziądz. Both Janusz Piechociński, head of the Sejm Infrastructure Commission and Bogusław Liberadzki, the deputy head of the commission and former transport minister, who granted GTC the license to build the A1 highway back in 1997, believe that the price of €5.6 million per kilometer, which was recently announced by the Ministry, is too high. The total price of €504 million is close to the highest price estimated by one of the consultants at €482.4 million plus an estimated €20 million compensation which GTC could seek if its license was revoked. "This is far too much. Negotiations are currently underway on the A2 highway. The agreed price for A1 could affect these talks," Piechociński points out. (Rzeczpospolita, p.B3) T.J.
