Rail Polska, a cargo company, is negotiating the terms of increasing its capital with an investment fund, which would help it create a group which could compete with PKP Cargo.

By the end of the year, Rail Polska expects to purchase two cargo companies operating in Poland. "We are also looking for alternative sources of capital," said Janusz Wellman, deputy president of Rail Polska. The company will invest tens of million of złoty on purchasing 500 carriages and 12 engines in 2004, which the firm's management hopes will help it capture a 10% share of the market by the end of 2005. Rail Polska itself does not have a license to offer cargo services under their own brand name and so operates through two subsidiaries. However, the company expects to secure a license and then would begin operations in Q4 under the name Rail. (Puls Biznesu, pp. 1, 6) M.M.
