Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Jan Truszczyński declared during the meeting of the Green Faction of the European Parliament that Poland was ready to discuss changes to the Nice Treaty.

He also revealed a compromise concerning the method of calculating the votes of EU members states in the European Council, which was prepared by the Polish government. One of the options would envisage taking the square root from a country's population and dividing it by a given factor, which would be equal to the total number of seats in the Council. This option would be more favorable for small and medium sized countries. European Affairs Minister Danuta Huebner believes that there is a chance of reaching a compromise by the end of Q2 2004.
