Iraqi Foreign Minister, Ali Alawi, who is currently paying a visit to Warsaw, yesterday announced that his country is open to trade with Poland and counts on significant investments from Polish enterprises.

"Taking into account your experience in transformation, both economic and political, Poland can be a very important trading partner. Polish companies were active in Iraq during the 1970s and 80s," said Alawi, adding that the sectors which will need most support include construction, chemical, and IT. Thomas Foley, a member of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq, responsible for the development of the private sector, also came to Warsaw supporting Alawi's words to Polish entrepreneurs. Foley described Iraq as a very attractive place to invest, where unemployment has fell from 50% to 28%, and with a booming market for satellite dishes and mobile phones.
